Facilities to students
1. Scholarship: -
The following scholarships are available for the eligible students:-
State Marit Scholarship
Post Matric Scholarship for the students belonging to ST, SC, OBC and MOBC categories.
Scholarship for Minority Students
A part from the verious state and central Govt. Scholarship the college authority also offers the following awards and prizes in both academic and extra curricular fields to the deserving students.
A students who secures a position ans star marks in the H.S. Final Examination is awarded with a bag of books of the subject he / she opted for major in our college.
The different departments also provide the facility of awarding the studentswith the necessary books for Degree classes who secure letter marks in H.S. Final Examination in the respective subject.
The student scoring Highest Marks in the H.S.Final Eaxmination among the successful candidate of Sonapur College is awarded with a cash prize of Rs. 1000/-. This cash prize is offered by the Sonarup College G.B.
Students scoring Highest among the letter marks in Geography in H.S. Final Examination and the highest among the first class holdesin T.D.C. Final Examination is awareded with a bag of books by Mr. Upen Borah, Founder Secretary of Sonapur College Governing Body.
Dr. Dhanjit Medhi Memorial Award is given to the best partcipant of the year in Annual College week. The award comprises of a trophy and a cash amount of Rs.1000/-. The award is offered by Smt. Khiroda Mali, Lecturer, Dept. of Education.
Niru Mahanta Memorial Award will be given to the Highest Mark scorer among the letter marks holders in English in H.S.Final Examination. This award is sponsored by Mrs. Mridusmita Mahanta, Sr. Lecturer, Dept.of English.
Robin Choudhury Memorial Award is given to the student securing Highest Marks in Assamese in H.S. Final Examination. The award is sponsored by the family members of Robin Choudhury.
An award will be given to the student who secure the Highest Mark among the 1st class holders in Assamese Majorby the department of Assamese.
Moti Ram Deka Memorial Award with a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- is given to the best group / individual for the Model and Chart competition held during the college week. The award is sponsored by Mr. Dharma Ram Deka, Sr. Lecturer, Department of Geography and Mrs. Doli Thakuria, Lecturer, Department of Education.
Arun Sankar Bhaduri Memorial Awards are given to the vest player and the winnerof Boys Marathan Race of the Annual Sports. The awards are sponsored by Sonapur Tea Estate.
The best girl player of the year in the Annual sportsis awared with a cashprize of Rs. 1000/- which is sponsored by Md. Bipul Borah, Principal i/c, Sonapur College.
The Best Social Worker of the year is awared with a bag of books presented by Mr. Rakhal Kalita, Social worker, Sonapur.
A bag of books will be awared to the student who collect the highest number of the materials for the College Meuseum.
3. AID TO STUDENTS
Poor cum meritorious students who do not get scholarship are relaxed from certain fees and provided with necessary books. The different departments also extended aid and provide books to the meritorious students.
Hostel facilities will be provided only on the demand of students.
5. GIRLS’ COMMON ROOM
A facilities of Girls’ Common Room is provided with a few equipmets of indoor games and certain educational as well as popular magazinesand periodicals.
6. BOYS’ COMMON ROOM
Dekachangof Chamati is a traditional concept belonging to the Tiwa community of Assam. According to a myth prevalent among the Tiwa community, Chamati is originally a recreational place for Lord Shiva and his companions. It is a platform wherethe youths learn singing and dancing and also it is a prototype of the primitive house where the ancient people had lived.
Dekachang is dream come true project of Sonapur College as it has always endeavoured to preserve and expose the local culture and heritage to the outer world. Moreover, the Dekachang is on the verge of extinction and so the college felt it to be a responsibility to preserve this traditional concept of the Tiwa Community. The college has built the Dekachang as its Boys Common Room.
1. Special Classes
Special classes are organised according to the need of the students.
2. Departmental Seminars
Regular departmental seminars and group discussions are conducted to build up students’ communicative competence as well as to impart up to date knowledge of the concerned subjects. The respective topics and programmes are included in this prospectus itself.
3. Field Work
The College facilities field work by the students of the concerned subjects for on the spot study and investigation. The area to be visited by the students will be determined by the concerned department in time.
4. Wall Magazine
Three regular issues of the wall magazine, ‘SOPAN’ viz. FRESHERS’ SOCIAL ISSUE, SARASWATI PUJA ISSUE and COLLEGE WEEK ISSUE are released during the session. Other wall magazines Basundhara of Sonapur College Geographical Society and Aishanu of department of Economics and English are released regularly.
The authority of the insitution takes initiation in providing chances and all necessary help to the students in different inter-college and inter university competitions.
6. Rover and Ranger Group
The Sonapur College Unit of Rover and Ranger Group is functioning with the active participation of the students. The students render social service both inside andoutside the college.
Sonapur College has introduced a unit of NCC. The facilities of NCC will be provided for the students through this college unit.
The College excursion is organised during the Puja vacation with the initiation of the students and teachers. Departmenttal excursion are alsoorganised regularly for the academic benefit of the students.
9. Travel Concession
Students are entitled to Railway Travel concession. They may contact the college office to avail this facility.
10. Information and Career Guidance
There is an information and career guidance cell formed with teachers who advise and guide students in career selection, job opportunities and higher studies outside the state. The cell also organises seminarsand workshops inviting professionals to deliver lecture on future prospect and placements of students.
Career orientedcamps are organised regularly for the degree students.
11. Grievance Redressal Cell
The students are allowed to make complaint regarding any college activity directly to the Principal without hesitation. Moreover, a Grievance Redressal Cell is formed to take care of the complaints of the students. In this regard, if a students hesitates to do so directly he shegets access to put up Complaint Box.
12. Blood Donors’ Association
A voluntary blood donors’ association with the membership of both students and teachers and staff is formed with an objective of yielding service to the needy and deserving people. The volunteers keep themselves ready to donate blood.
